nano tip 2

I heard about NaBloPoMo (National Blog Posting Month) last week.  Basically it’s an impetus to post a blog entry every day for a month – like NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) for blogging.  It also has resources to help encourage you to continue, forums of other people involved etc.

As it happens I was already trying to post at least once a day, so it can only help to try and continue through the rest of the month.

Nothing makes you notice the lack of interesting things in your life like trying to regularly write about it :)

Reblog this post [with Zemanta]
  • I found your site through the trackback from your Zemanta link. Zemanta links are pretty amazing. I have met several people though that and MyBlogLog.

You are right about the challenge of finding things to post about. For a least half of my first year posting everyday. I tried to make sure never to say the same thing twice and tried not to repeat myself. Then I started getting questions from new readers asking things I had covered in older posts and it occurred to me that they are no more likely to go looking for the answer in my archive than they are to look for it elsewhere online.

So if a topic is interesting to me or my readers on a particular day I post on it even if someone else said basically the same thing somewhere else. Especially since I have a lot of people reading my blog that do not read many other sites at all. For them, I just take the highlights of the web and put them all in an easy to reach spot.

I am to the point now where I have a lot more I want to post about than I have time to post. Looks like you have been around long enough you might be about to hit that point. And, if you are looking for inspiration, you can always make fun of my post each day.

    Have fun.
  • Yeah, Zemanta kicks ass

I do tend to just re-post news that's already out there along with a bit of personal commentary, but I'd prefer to do more than just echo existing news.

The problem I've seen is that really original content tends to get almost no hits, but re-posted news gets hit because people are mostly searching for things like that...
  • Talking about what is hot right now gets you a lot of one time visits, which pretty cool, and I do that sometimes. I am trying more for people who keep coming back and especially commenting. I am trying to establish a community.

To do that I often write posts in response to their posts. Even if I just comment on their site I put a link to that comment in twitter and then copy all those tweets in a weekly summary. Doing this has kept me pretty busy.... makes it easy to find something to post about each day.
